First Photo Shoot Today.

Got back from our first photo shoot and it went great! Kenny Johnson went over tons of useful wrestling tips for JJ and his partner on the mats was none other that UFC fan favorite Clay "The Carpenter" Guida. Clay's not jiu-jitsu guy but has finished his last three fights by submission. Clay shared with us some tips that you're going to really like. I'm dying to roll so I can dominate my classmates with some of the new technique I learned today :). You guys will have to wait, at least until the first issue hits the streets to elevate your game.

Regular Column on Wrestling for Jiu-Jitsu

Hey everybody, hope you're having a great weekend. Just got back from Las Vegas and the Fight Summit, an MMA industry trade show. Great show, we'll be sure to promote in the magazine for next year. While there we hooked up with Kenny Johnson. We're so excited to let you guys know that Kenny will be our regular wrestling columnist. Every issue he'll show you different wrestling techniques and how to apply them to your jiu-jitsu. For those of you who don't know, Kenny was an All-American Wrestler at the University of Iowa wrestling for legendary Dan Gable and was a member of the '95 NCAA Championship Team. He is currently BJ Penn's wrestling coach along with Anderson Silva. He was also Antonio Nogeira's team wrestling coach on the Ultimate Fighter.

We're excited and proud to have Kenny onboard.

Until next time...

The Results So Far

Thanks to everybody that took the time to take our first survey from the Facebook link. We'll be doing those regularly for different reasons. The first was to give us a good idea of who's following us, where their jiu-jitsu is at, and what they're interested in. Some results were what we expected and some were a little surprising. Here are some of the interesting, or at least notable, results.

A little over 40% of you fall between 3-stripe white and 2-stripe blue. For the most part the magazine will be written for white and blue belts. These are by far the largest groups of jiu-jitsu players (not sure about that term, "players" doesn't sound right) and are the most likely to buy a magazine about jiu-jitsu.

38% train 4 or more times a week. Call me lazy I guess, I fall between the 2-3 times a week category.

Almost 60% of you have competed in a tournament and 12% have no interest in competition.

The position you have the most confidence in, your closed guard and side control.

You're all fat, 33% of you would like to lose 10 to 20lbs and 17% would like to lose more than 20lbs. I'm in the later category.

Most of you don't wear a mouth guard when you roll. I always use a mouth guard, my parents spent a lot on braces when I was a kid also I find that I can hold out on a choke much longer with than without.

Most of the other answers are now considered trade secrets so we'll hang on to those until you get to read the magazine. If you haven't taken our survey yet, please do, it's quick and easy and will help us make the best magazine possible. You can take the survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2SR5ZKS

Also, we recently did a call out for photos of yourself, name, where you train, belt rank as well as another request for questions for our Q&A column. On that one be sure to provide name and belt rank as well. You can email those questions and photos to us at feedback@jiujitsumag.com

Hope everybody's having a great weekend.

Communications Have Begun!

Until our official site launches in March with the printed magazine this will be our temporary home to keep you up-to-date with the upcoming Jiu-Jitsu Magazine. We'll keep it simple here and try not to come across like an advertisement for the magazine.

To this point our only real promotion and communication with readers has been on our facebook page. www.facebook.com/jiujitsumag. I think right now we're at 5300 fans, very happy about that. Thanks everybody for following us. We've posted lots of questions, gotten lots of responses and just recently posted a survey. The responses on the survey have been really good and so far they've only confirmed what we've been working on in terms of what people want to learn and read about. So far we have a few articles written and are expanding our editorial staff. Speaking of which, we're looking for qualified contributing writers. More details on that soon.

This week we'll be completing our media kits and will be printing soon so that we can go out and sell some ads. This will be the fourth magazine launch of my 16 year career and selling ads is always the most challenging.

Talk to you soon,
